‘Part P’
What is Part P?
Building Regulations Approved Document P was introduced in January 2005 by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and is about electrical safety in buildings. It applies to all electrical installation work in dwellings including any greenhouse, conservatory, porch and car port open on at least 2 sides.
This means that if electrical work is being carried out on your property, including minor electrical work or work in special locations you should notify your local Building Control Department unless your electrical work is being carried out by a person registered with an electrical self certification scheme or it is non-notifiable work. However non-notifiable work is required to comply with Part P and should be inspected, tested and have the appropriate electrical certificate issued to show compliance.
Certelec’s Inspection & Testing Service
Certelec Ltd has been awarded a BSi Kitemark licence which is specifically defined to allow us to inspect, test and certify electrical installations to BS 7671. So we can offer an inspection and testing service for electrical contractors or others carrying out electrical work who require an independently issued Electrical Installation Certificate.
Our service comprises of:
- An intermediate inspection at first fix (to check the installation meets BS 7671 and the appropriate Building Regulation requirements relevant to people carrying out electrical work - an Intermediate Report is issued)
- On completion a full inspection and test to BS 7671(Electrical Installation Certificate is issued).
As we do not carry out any electrical installation work there is no conflict of interest or bias. A completely independent inspection, test and certification that is integrity based.
This service will be of interest to:
- Electrical Contractors that require independent test/certification
- Do It Yourselfers
- Landlords
- Property Managing Agents
- Property Developers
Cost
Our costs are extremely competitive and are dependent upon the size of the property, numbers of properties and type of installation - a free consultation/survey may be needed. A realistic quotation will be issued and once this is agreed there will not be any unexpected charges added.
Agents for Building Control Departments
As Certelec has been awarded a Kitemark licence by one of the authorised competent person schemes we can offer a special service for Building Control Departments. Certelec Inspectors can act as agents to inspect and test electrical work, this can be on an agreed fee per inspection or on a contractual basis.
As part of this specialist service, an additional Intermediate Inspection at 1st fix can be carried out to check the installation meets BS 7671 and the appropriate Building Regulation requirements relevant to people carrying out electrical work..
